John Leguizamo Writes Open Letter To Television Academy Advocating For More Representation In Award Ceremonies
Columbian American actor John Leguizamo wrote an open letter to the Television Academy June 9. He’s advocating for artists of color to be represented across all categories in Hollywood besides just one.
While Leguizamo recognizes that the academy may be tired of hearing words like “inclusivity” and “diversity,” he highlights in the letter how there are hundreds of non-white artists who deserve to be considered for awards this year. And he stresses that it’s not because of their race that they should be recognized, but because of their talent.
Leguizamo hopes that going forward, the award ceremonies will show more representation on stage to inspire the next generation of minority artists.
