Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) Is Dropped By Sunshine Sachs
The Golden Globes just can’t seem to catch a break this year. In addition to its cancellation and receiving backlash from issues regarding minority inclusion, the PR firm Sunshine Sacks has now dropped the HFPA as a client. Coincidentally, HFPA dragging its feet to take steps for inclusion despite past promises is possibly the cause of this decision. According to Deadline, the HFPA received a letter earlier on March 10, 2022, about Sunshine Sachs’ decision to remove HFPA as a client. Sunshine Sachs follows many former HFPA partners in jumping ship when controversy grows unimpeded.
Despite the HFPA’s claims to seek equality and inclusion, no significant results have been produced. The HFPA has taken some action by hiring a diversity consultant and working alongside the NAACP, but their promise of increased diversity has fallen on deaf ears amongst moviegoers. One would think that all their resources and feedback would result in immediate, successful actions. Sadly, it almost seems like HFPA only stated their “promises” as a means of conducting damage control on their image rather than a declaration of change. The HFPA needs to listen to the thoughts and concerns of the people outside of their organization, or else experience more loss of support.
