Elden Ring, the critically praised action role-playing game from famous game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki and fantasy writer George R. R. Martin, was named Game of the Year at the Game Developers Choice Awards on Wednesday, March 22—winning three trophies during the evening. Not only does Elden Ring return with the prestigious Game of the Year title, but the game also won Best Design and Best Visual Arts. Sony Santa Monica Studio's God of War Ragnarök also took home three trophies at the show, including Best Audio and Best Technology, as well as the Audience Award, which was determined by a public vote. Every year, the Game Developers Choice Awards honor significant industry individuals who drive the genre forward. This year, the GDCA presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to John Romero, who helped pioneer the first-person shooter genre, the immensely famous multiplayer game mode "Deathmatch," and much more through his work on games such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake.
