Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, which was co-directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, won the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for Best Animated Feature. Moreover, the movie was nominated for Best Production Score and Best Score, however, Babylon and All Quiet on the Western Front won those awards.

Del Toro, a multiple-award-winning director, and legendary stop-motion creator Mark Gustafson reimagined the famous Carlo Collodi story of the famed wooden boy. Del Toro thanked Netflix for "believing that a Pinocchio musical, about life and death, where everyone dies at the end, with the rise of Mussolini, was a brilliant idea" in his victory speech. The film also won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and is widely regarded as the favorite to win the same category at the Oscars.

After winning Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language for Pan's Labyrinth (2007), Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for The Shape of Water (2018), this was del Toro's sixth BAFTA victory. The Southbank Centre in London, England, hosted the 76th annual British Academy Film Awards ceremony on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
