American Film Institute Sets Date For 2023 AFI Awards

The American Film Institute on Wednesday, May 31, revealed that the 2023 AFI Awards will take place on January 5, 2024, at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills.

The American Film Institute presents the AFI Awards to honor the ten greatest films and television programs of the year. Unlike other award ceremonies, the AFI Awards recognize film and television projects that are culturally and artistically representative of the year's most significant achievements in American cinema's art of the moving image. The AFI Special Award recognizes media that does not meet the AFI's eligibility criteria for the main categories, such as non-American productions and other sorts of media.

A jury of AFI trustees, artists, critics, and scholars selects the winners of the AFI Awards. Submission deadlines will be notified in the following weeks, and honorees will be recognized in December. In a statement from the institute, “Celebrating the collaborative nature of film and television, AFI Awards is the only national program that honors creative teams as a whole, recognizing those in front of and behind the camera,” adding that, “All of the honored works advance the art of the moving image, inspire audiences and artists alike, and enhance the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form. When placed in a historical context, these stories provide a complex and rich visual record of our modern world.”
