2019 Muse Awards Honorees
The New York Women in Film & Television 2019 Muse Awards honors women leaders across multiple entertainment media platforms. While three women of color were honored, the following two honorees were relevant to film and television entertainment media.
Kasi Lemmons: The actress turned director made her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed Eve's Bayou in 1997. From there Kasi Lemmons would go on to direct such films as Dr. Hugo (1998), The Caveman's Valentine (2001), Talk to Me (2007), Black Nativity (2013), and her highest-grossing film to date Harriet (2019).
Next up, Lemmons is directing and producing the TV series based on the real-life story of trailblazing African American entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker who built a haircare empire that made her America's first female self-made millionaire.
Anjali Sud: The current CEO of the ad-free video platform Vimeo which provides free and premium video services to content creators is a graduate of Wharton of School of Business where Anjali Sud got her BS in Finance and Management. Sud later graduated with an MBA from Harvard University.
During the early part of her career, Sud worked in media and e-commerce for companies such as Amazon, Time Warner, and Sagent Advisors.
Sud would later join Vimeo as Head of Global Marketing. She would later serve as General Manager of Vimeo’s core creator business, where she oversaw the expansion of the company’s hosting, distributing and monetizing services. Most notability in that role Sud launched Vimeo Business and 360 video support tools.
In her role as CEO Sud has overseen Vimeos strategic investments in original content, expanding content creator tools, and the acquisition of the streaming platform Livestream.
